WHEN IS THE BLOOD MOON HAPPENING?
If you are looking for something extra special on a Tuesday night, all you have to do is look up!
On November 8th, 2022, all of Aotearoa will be able to view the moon as it turns blood red slipping behind Earth's shadow.
With this lunar event, you’ll want to set your alarms, because the moon is set to be showing its beauty from 10:09pm. The total lunar eclipse will peak at 11:59pm and is set to end at around 1:49am on Wednesday.

WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT IT?
This will be the last total lunar eclipse for the next three years.
According to NASA: “After Tuesday’s eclipse, the next total lunar eclipse will not occur again until March 2025.”
Unlike solar eclipses, a lunar eclipse can be viewed safely by the naked eye.
WHY IS IT CALLED A 'BLOOD MOON TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE’?
When the moon, Earth, and sun are all in alignment, the moon passes into Earth's shadow, causing a lunar eclipse.
Total lunar eclipses are commonly referred to as "blood moons" because of the striking red colouration brought on by Earth's shadow, which scatters the sunlight and reflects it on the moon's surface.
